March Sports Car Sales: Camaro Wins With Mustang Close Behind We thought we’d try something new with our sales coverage this month; in addition to regaling you with tales of how the Hyundai Elantra almost outsold the Honda Civic or how the Nissan Altima outsold the Toyota Camry, we’re breaking down the sales of sports and sporty cars under $100,000. Not surprisingly, the Chevrolet Camaro came out on top, with the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang nipping at its heels.

Even though an updated model is just around the corner, the Chevrolet Camaro still leads the segment by a decent margin with 8102 sold last month, bringing its year-to-date total to 19,198. Though the Ford Mustang was right behind the Camaro with 7688 units sold, the Dodge Challenger had a record sales month, yet still finished third.

2013 Scion FR S rear 300x187 imageFourth place last month went to the hot-selling Scion FR-S, with 1828 sold (4640 so far this year), while fifth place belongs to the Audi A5 range, with 1628 in sales in March 2013. The rest of the top 10 was rounded out by the outgoing C6 Chevrolet Corvette (1053 sold), Porsche 911 (990 sold), Subaru BRZ (905 sold), Nissan 370Z (669 sold), and the BMW 1 Series (594 sold).

As for the new SRT Viper’s three-unit sales,   production started just last week.

Before you scroll down to check out the full list, we have some housekeeping first: to be included on this list a car must have two doors, start near or under $100,000, and for simplicity’s sake, cannot be a hot hatch. Also, cars including the Lotus Evora and Hyundai Genesis Coupe aren’t included because of incomplete data
