1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC Serves as Inspiration for Custom SLS AMG Roadster

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC Serves as Inspiration for Custom SLS AMG Roadster We’ve seen our fair share of modified Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG gullwings and roadsters, but this current project from the folks at Gullwing America (GWA) might be the wildest build thus far. The donor car is a 2012 SLS AMG Roadster, which will be morphed into a modern interpretation of the rare 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC, which had a low production run of 92 units.

According to GWA, an Eastern European customer asked the tuner to create a “one-of-a-kind” project car named the “300 SLC.” The sheetmetal will consist of custom handmade aluminum body panels, including the curvy fenders that mimic the classic 300 SC, though most people may see similarities with the more common Morgan Aero or Roadster. The front end will showcase a boxy and straight hood, a massive grille with a half dozen slats, and thin, teardrop-shaped headlight units will run up the center of the front fender. The rear end will include a metal bumper with simple, rectangular taillights mounted on top. The electric pop-up spoiler will move from the edge of the trunk lid to a new spot directly behind the rollbars (though we wonder how much, if any, downforce this new location will provide). The SLS AMG’s soft-top remains, but the tuner will also fabricate a removable hard top. Finally, GWA will mount custom 22-inch wheels in the rear and 21-inchers up front.
The project will not include any significant modifications to the interior, nor the 6.2-liter V-8 engine, which will still produce 563 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Rounding out the mechanical tweaks are a custom exhaust and adjustable suspension.
